Why a consultation matters before colour
A consultation lets Tara see your hair in person, understand its history and agree the plan and the price with you before anything begins, so the colour suits you and there are no surprises.
Every appointment with Tara starts at the chair, not on the phone. It is a conversation, not a formality, and it is the part of the appointment that shapes everything after it.
Photos only tell part of the story
Reference photos are a great starting point, but the same photo can mean very different things on different hair. Your natural colour, thickness, texture and condition all change how a shade will look on you, and lighting and filters change how colour looks on screen. Seeing your hair in person is how Tara turns a photo into a plan that will actually work for you.
Your hair’s history changes the plan
Colour that is already in your hair, even from years ago, affects how it lightens and how toner settles. Box dye, henna, smoothing treatments and recent lightening can all change what is possible in one visit and what is kind to your hair. Knowing this first means realistic expectations and healthier results.
The colour should suit your life, not just the day
Some clients want to stretch 10 to 16 weeks between colours; others are happy to come back for a toner every 4 to 6 weeks. How often you want to visit, how you style your hair and how much sun and swimming it sees all shape whether balayage, foils or a combination will suit you best.
You agree the price before anything begins
Prices are listed from because hair genuinely varies: longer, thicker or previously coloured hair takes more time and product. At the consultation, Tara confirms the time needed and the price, so you can relax knowing exactly what to expect. See services and pricing ›
What Tara will ask about
Your colour history
Box dye, henna, keratin or smoothing treatments, and any recent lightening, including how long ago.
The result you want
Reference photos of colour you love, and just as usefully, colour you don’t.
How you live with your hair
How often you want to come back, how you style it day to day, and whether you swim or spend a lot of time in the sun.
You can share some of this ahead of time in the enquiry form, including a photo of your hair now and a look you love.
Consultation questions
Do I need a consultation before my appointment?
Every new client with Tara Quin begins with a consultation at the chair, at the start of the appointment. Tara looks at your hair in person, talks through your colour history and lifestyle, and confirms the plan and the price before anything begins.
Why can’t colour be quoted from a photo?
A photo cannot show your hair’s thickness, condition or colour history, and lighting and filters change how colour looks on screen. Longer, thicker or previously coloured hair takes more time and product, so Tara confirms the price once she has seen your hair in person.
What should I bring to a colour consultation?
Bring a few photos of colour you love and any you don’t, and be ready to share your colour history, including box dye, keratin treatments and recent lightening. Knowing how often you want to come back also helps Tara plan the right colour.
