What happens at your first appointment?
Wondering what a visit to Tara actually looks like, start to finish? Here is every step, so nothing on the day is a surprise.

Before you arrive
Send an enquiry with your hair goals and a reference photo or two if you have them. Tara replies by email as soon as she can to confirm a time.

The consultation
Every appointment starts at the chair, not on the phone. Tara looks at your hair in person, talks through your colour history and lifestyle, and confirms the plan and the price before anything begins.

The colour or cut
A full balayage or foil service usually takes 2.5 to 4 hours, depending on length and thickness. A cut and style is typically 45 minutes to an hour. Tara works on you alone from start to finish, so there is no waiting on an assistant.

Toning and finish
Colour is finished with a toner or gloss for a true, dimensional tone, then cut and styled before you leave.

Aftercare
You will leave with product recommendations built for your hair and a suggested date for your next visit, whether that is a 6-week toner refresh or a 10 to 16 week colour appointment.

How long does a balayage appointment take?
Most balayage appointments take 2.5 to 4 hours at Tara Quin, including consultation, application, toning and a cut and style. Longer or thicker hair sits at the higher end.
How often do I need to touch up balayage?
Balayage is designed to grow out softly, so most clients return every 10 to 16 weeks for a full refresh, with an optional toner or gloss every 4 to 6 weeks in between.
Does balayage damage your hair?
Balayage is generally gentler than traditional foils, since lightener is painted onto the surface rather than sealed against the scalp in every section. Premium colour and a strengthening treatment protect condition further.
Will balayage work on dark or brunette hair?
Yes. Balayage was developed for brunettes and suits dark hair beautifully, though very dark or previously coloured hair may need a longer appointment, or a second visit, to lift safely.

How much do foils cost?
At Tara Quin in Teneriffe, partial foils start from $170, half head foils from $235, 3/4 head foils from $290 and full head foils from $315. Toner is an additional cost, from $60, and is quoted at your consultation. All prices include GST.
Do I need partial, half or full head foils?
Partial foils brighten around the face and parting, half head foils add lightness through the top and sides, and full head foils give all-over brightness or full coverage of regrowth. Tara recommends the right amount at your consultation, based on your hair and how bright you want to go.
