What goes into the price of balayage?
With Tara Quin in Teneriffe, half head balayage starts from $290 and full head from $350, including GST. Your exact price depends on your hair’s length, thickness and history, and is agreed at your consultation before anything begins.
What changes the price
Balayage is priced “from” because no two heads of hair take the same time or product. The main things that move the price are:
- Length and thickness. More hair takes more lightener and more time. A full balayage usually takes 2.5 to 4 hours, and longer or thicker hair sits at the higher end.
- How much lightness you want. A half head places brightness through the top and around your face. A full head carries it all the way through.
- Where your hair is starting from. Very dark or previously coloured hair can need a longer appointment, or a second visit, to lift safely. Box dye, henna and smoothing treatments all change what is possible in one visit.
- Toner. Toner sets the final shade. With individual colour services it is quoted separately at your consultation, from $60. It is included in every package.
- A cut and finish. Booked on its own, a signature cut and style starts from $155. The packages below include one.

Packages: one price for the whole appointment
If you would rather know the full cost up front, the packages combine colour, toner, cut and finish at one price, for less than booking each service separately:
- The Lived-In Half, from $445: half head balayage, toner and gloss, and a signature cut and style. That saves $60.
- The Signature Blonde, from $550: full head balayage, toner and gloss, a signature cut and style, a treatment and massage, and a gloss refresh at week 6. That saves $123.
When you will know the price

What upkeep adds over a year
Balayage is designed to grow out softly, so most clients come back for a full refresh every 10 to 16 weeks, with an optional toner or gloss every 4 to 6 weeks in between to keep the tone bright.
As a rough guide, a full head balayage every 12 weeks with one toner refresh in between comes to about four of each a year: from $1,640 a year at the starting prices ($350 plus $60, four times). Going longer between colours, or skipping toner, brings that down.

Comparing prices between salons
Balayage prices vary a lot across Brisbane, and a lower headline price doesn’t always cover the same appointment. When you compare, ask whether the price includes toner, a cut and style, and a treatment, and who will actually do your colour.
